The Chicago Cubs start a seven-game road trip Monday when they begin a three-game series at the Miami Marlins.
The Cubs (62-84) were officially eliminated from playoff contention after dropping two of three against the Colorado Rockies this past weekend. Chicago took the opener 2-1 then fell 3-1 and 4-3.
The Cubs have 16 games remaining this season until they head into the offseason looking to build a playoff-caliber team. During this 16-game stretch, Chicago manager David Ross will likely try to see what he has in players prior to the offseason.
The Marlins (60-87), who are also already eliminated, have lost four of their past six games, and haven't won a series since Aug. 24 at Oakland. Miami most recently fell 5-4 and 5-3 before a 3-1 victory at the Washington Nationals. It wasn't a great series for the Marlins against the worst team in the MLB.
