Cubs/Mets preview

The Chicago Cubs look to continue their winning ways when they visit the New York Mets for a four-game set, starting Monday at Citi Field.

The Cubs (38-27, first in NL Central) won their fifth straight with a 2-0 victory against the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday to complete a weekend sweep. Zach Davies threw 6.2 shutout innings of two-hit ball, striking out six and walking two. Ryan Tepera had 1.1 scoreless innings in relief, and Craig Kimbrel stuck out three in the ninth, en route to his 18th save.

Javier Báez was scratched from the Cubs' lineup Sunday because of a sore right thumb. The shortstop missed three games last week in San Diego, and aggravated the injury Saturday trying to catch a foul ball.

The Mets (32-25, first in NL East) fell 7-3 to the San Diego Padres on Sunday in Queens. New York had won three straight and five of six. Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a tiebreaking grand slam in the seventh off Jacob Barnes to prevent the Mets from sweeping the series.

The Mets are 17-6 at Citi Field and Sunday's loss was the first time they've allowed more than three runs in 12 home games. The Cubs are 14-17 on the road.

The Cubs swept a three-game set back in April at Wrigley Field. Chicago outscored the Mets 23-8 in the series, including a 16-4 blowout victory.
