Nico Hoerner to Begin Rehab Assignment with Iowa Cubs

Chicago Cubs infielder Nico Hoerner is beginning a rehab assignment at Triple-A Iowa as he works toward returning to the MLB club before the end of the season.
The Cubs placed Hoerner on the 10-day injured list on July 29 due to a right oblique strain. On August 22, Hoerner joined the South Bend Cubs to begin rehabbing, but he tweaked his oblique and was immediately shut down after just one game.
In 2021 Hoerner is slashing .313/.388/.388 and has played all around the field at 2B, 3B, SS, LF, and CF. He has primarily played second base for the Cubs to this point, but it was clear after the team traded Javier Baez to the Mets that Hoerner would take over at shortstop.

It's not clear how long Hoerner will be with the Iowa Cubs, but he will likely have off-days between his appearances to see how his body responds to being back on the field. Hopefully he can rejoin the Cubs soon and finish off the 2021 season strong.
