Cubs No. 20 Prospect Christopher Morel Debuting with Iowa Cubs
After spending the traditional minor league season with the Double-A Tennessee Smokies, third base prospect Christopher Morel is debuting with Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, September 22.
Morel played 101 games with the Smokies in 2021, on his way to a .220/.300/.432 slash line. In addition, he hit 17 home runs, drove in 64 runs, scored 59 runs, and added 17 doubles. Despite his low average with the Smokies, Morel provided enough offense to consistently remain in the lineup.
Historically a third baseman, Morel is now listed in the Cubs' top 30 prospects as an outfielder/infielder. If Morel has truly added other positions to his arsenal defensively, then he has a chance to have a prominent future with the Cubs. According to Iowa Cubs' broadcaster Alex Cohen, Morel is batting fifth and playing third base tonight for Iowa.
