Cubs Select Jordan Wicks with the 21st Pick in the MLB Draft
With the 21st pick, the Chicago Cubs selected LHP Jordan Wicks from Kansas State in the first round of the MLB Draft.
Wicks is a very polished pitching prospect. Not only has he pitched at the collegiate level, but according to Harold Reynolds of MLB Network, he's his pick to be the first to the majors from this draft class. He's also deemed to have possibly the best changeup in this year's draft class.
Wicks' sophomore season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the left-hander has some impressive numbers over three collegiate seasons. In 34 starts over three seasons, Wicks was 15-6 with a 3.24 ERA, 230 strikeouts, and only 58 walks in 203 innings of work. In 2021, Wicks was 6-3 with a 3.70 ERA, 118 strikeouts, and only 28 walks in 92.1 innings.
