MLB Insider Jon Heyman reported, via Twitter, that the Chicago Cubs have placed OF Carlos Gonzalez on waivers for purpose of sending him to the minors.

As seen above, the Cubs would like "CarGo" to stay with the organization. He could be both a stabilizing veteran presence for players such as Ian Happ, while also being additional depth for September call-ups later this season.

However, in the end it is his call. Carlos Gonzalez can request release and become a free agent, giving him the freedom to search for his next opportunity. However, CarGo may like being a part of the Cubs organization and stay in the minors until rosters expand.

There were hints of this move occurring last night, as tweets such as this one surfaced:

CarGo will be the roster casualty of the Cole Hamels injury that occurred last night. Now that Hamels and Kyle Hendricks are both on the IL, the Cubs need to add arms to both start and come out of the bullpen.

Keep an eye on your updates for the names the Cubs recall today to fill out the roster ahead of the game this afternoon against the Reds.
