According to Jordan Bastian, RHP Rowan Wick is with the Chicago Cubs and is expected to be activated "in the coming days".

Wick's return is great news for the Cubs. After trading their top three bullpen arms at the trade deadline last week, the team is without high leverage arms in the pen. Fans may recall how good Wick was in 2019 and 2020 with the Cubs before his injury.

In 2019, Wick appeared in 31 games with the Cubs. In that time, he posted a 2.43 ERA, 2-0 record, five holds, and a pair of saves. In addition, Wick struck out 35 batters in 33.1 innings of work.

Wick followed that up in 2020 with a solid showing in 19 games. In 17.1 innings of work, Wick posted a 3.12 ERA, five holds, four saves, and 20 strikeouts. Worth noting, Wick actually outperformed Craig Kimbrel for most of the 2020 season before he was injured in September.

Now, a return for Wick means the Cubs have another piece they can examine entering the 2022 season. If Wick can return to his 2019-20 form, he may be a top three bullpen arm for the Cubs next season. There's also a chance that he could be the closer for the foreseeable future.
