The Chicago Cubs have announced that they will recall RHP Carl Edwards Jr. from AAA Iowa, and in a corresponding move send RHP Dillon Maples back down.

To say CJ got off to a rocky start stretches a bit beyond sugar coating. Six earned runs and five walks over 1.2 innings (four appearances) is awful, but a definitely a small sample size. He gave up as many home runs as strikeouts accumulated (two). His short time in Iowa was relatively uneventful. He threw 8.1 innings over seven games. I'd prefer to see more than seven strikeouts during that time, but I'll accept it since it comes with only two free passes. I like the kid and would love to see him succeed. Look how happy he is with a proper flag!

Dillon Maples didn't give up any runs (earned or otherwise) in this cup of coffee, but he's got things to work on before coming back for good. Drive down those walks buddy bear, 'cuz that slide piece is tasty.
