USMNT World Cup 2022 Draw Schedule

The 2022 World Cup Draw took place today, meaning the US men's national team has learned its group opponents. Qualifying for this World Cup has not been easy by any means; USA finished just third in the CONCACAF qualifying group behind Canada and Mexico. On the other hand, Canada recorded its second-ever World Cup qualification after its 1986 visit. Likewise, this qualification has meant redemption for the USMNT. For example, many still remember the disaster of 2017 in Trinidad and Tobago.

Meanwhile, it appears coach Gregg Berhalter has righted the ship that went way off course five years ago. As a result, last summer the USA defeated Mexico in the 2021 Gold Cup Final and the CONCACAF Nations League Final. During his tenure, Berhalter has a 68% winning record for the USMNT. They will now have a different group of opponents in Qatar this November. The Group B pot is as follows:

Consequently, a "UEFA PLAYOFF" spot is up for grabs between Wales, Ukraine, and Scotland. Wales is awaiting the winner between Ukraine and Scotland. Meanwhile, the playoff final is set in Cardiff sometime in June. Once that gets hashed out, the fixture schedule will become a bit more clear.

Finally, here is the schedule for Group B of the 2022 World Cup released thus far:

  • November 21: USA vs. Wales/Scottland/Ukraine
  • November 25: USA vs. England
  • November 29: USA vs. Iran

Above all, USA fans will be most excited to see the match against England. That squad might have the likes of Harry Kane (Tottenham), Jadon Sancho (Manchester United), Phil Foden (Manchester City), and Jordan Henderson (Liverpool). Given the plethora of talent in this England side, the USMNT needs to be at its best.

If recent form proves anything, USA has been on fire as of late. Their terrific form was on display last qualifying match against Panama on March 27. The US won 5-1, with captain Christian Pulisic scoring his first career international hat-trick.

In short, November is coming soon but the USMNT is clicking on all cylinders heading into the World Cup.
