Major League Soccer has announced some key matchups in the opening weeks of the 2022 season. One item of note is the timing of the start of the season.
The MLS will have its earliest start to a season to make sure the campaign will finish with enough time for players to prepare for the 2022 World Cup. Next year's edition of the tournament will take place in November and December due to its location in Qatar.
With the announcement of key schedule dates, the Chicago Fire also announced a couple of key matchups.
The Fire will kick off their 25th season in South Florida as they face Inter Miami on February 26. Chicago will play another Florida team in the home opener as Orlando City comes to town on March 5. That match will mark the earliest home opener in club history.
The Fire will look to begin the slate on a high note and reach the playoffs for the first time since 2017. Although the club has struggled during recent seasons, the Fire are unbeaten in their last three home openers.
Last year's home opener saw the Fire blow an early 2-0 lead that ended in a draw against Supporters Shield's Winners New England Revolution. Overall, the Fire are 11-7-6 in home openers, including a 5-2-1 mark at Soldier Field.
