The Chicago Fire will host Liga MX side Club León in an international friendly Saturday, Sept. 24 at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, the clubs announced Tuesday.
“This match will serve as a great opportunity for us to face a strong opponent and stay sharp during the two-week international break in late September,” Chicago Fire Sporting Director Georg Heitz said in a release. “We look forward to facing León in front of our fans as we continue to push toward the MLS Cup Playoffs.”
Club León play in the top-flight of Mexican football and have claimed the title eight times, but only three times since 2013. They most recently won in 2020. In May, the club appointed Renato Paiva as manager. Club León is in ninth place in the 18-team league after seven matches in the 17-match Apertura season.
The Fire (8-10-6, 30 points) are currently in the seventh and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with 10 regular-season matches remaining.
