Chicago Fire Exercise 2023 Contract Option for Gabriel Slonina
The Chicago Fire exercised the 2023 contract option on Gabriel Slonina, the club announced Tuesday.
The 17-year-old homegrown goalkeeper has recorded a MLS-best five shutouts in the Fire's first seven games this season. The Addison, Illinois native is the first goalkeeper in league history to post nine career clean sheets before the age of 21.
The Fire signed Slonina when he was 14 years old in 2019. He became the youngest goalkeeper in league history to start and post a shutout in a 0-0 draw against eventual league champions New York City FC on Aug. 4, 2021.
