The Chicago Fire's dreams of making the MLS playoffs this season hit an all-time low after the team suffered its ninth defeat of the season against the San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday.

Brian Gutierrez's first MLS goal was not enough for the Fire to salvage a point after two goals from Benjamin Kikanovic fetched all three points for San Jose.

Head coach Ezra Hendrickson said his team will have to dig deep for a win this weekend when they host Columbus Crew at Soldier Field on Saturday, July 9.
