The Chicago Fire play their home opener against Orlando City SC on Saturday at Soldier Field in Chicago.
The Fire (0-0-1) played to a 0-0 draw in their season opener at Inter Miami during the MLS opening weekend. Chicago goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina made four saves to pick up where he left off last season when he had four shutouts in 11 appearances. Xherdan Shaqiri had two shots in his Fire debut after signing for a club-record $7.5 million. Kacper Przybylko had also had a shot for Chicago, which held a possession edge at 59.2 percent.
Alexandre Pato and Benji Michel each scored for Orlando (1-0-0) to defeat CF Montreal 2-0 in the season opener for both teams this past weekend. Pato, a former Chelsea and AC Milan player, joined Orlando last season but missed the majority of the 2021 season because of injuries.
Beyond its two goal scorers against Montreal, Orlando also boasts two young Uruguayan talents in Facundo Torres and Cesar Araujo. The exciting duo play across the field with plenty of pace and skill.
Pedro Gallese made two saves, including one on former Fire midfielder Djordje Mihailovic, for his 11th career MLS shutout. Each team had eight shots, but only three were on goal for Orlando and two for Montreal.
Orlando will be without center back Robin Jansson, who is suspended after he received two yellow cards last weekend. Rodrigo Schlegel could slide into the lineup.
