Xherdian Shaqiri assisted on Breel Embolo's goal in Switzerland's 1-0 win over Camroon in Group G play on Thursday at Al Janoub Stadium.
The Chicago Fire midfielder sent the ball from the right flank into the box for Embolo, who tapped it into the net in the 48th minute. Shaqiri and Switzerland held on to start the 2022 FIFA World Cup with a victory.
The 31-year-old Shaqiri is playing in his fourth World Cup. He joined the Fire last winter on a $7.5 million transfer fee from Ligue 1's Lyon making him the MLS' highest-paid player in 2022. He is the only current Fire player participating in the World Cup.

Shaqiri and Switzerland play their second group play match against Brazil on Monday. Brazil, who is among the favorites to win the tournament, defeated Serbia 2-0 on Thursday. Switzerland and Brazil will kickoff at 10 a.m. Central time, with the game broadcasted on FOX.
