Picks: Record 1-4

  • Minnesota -3 (L)
  • Atlanta -3 (L)
  • Indianapolis +3 (L)
  • Carolina -4.5 (W)
  • Tennessee -3 (L)

It was a very brutal Week One, and three of the four losses were not close at all. Looking forward to a bounce back in Week Two.

Week Two Picks

New York Giants vs. Washington Football Team -3.5

Washington lost their starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick in Week One, but Taylor Heinicke has played pretty well in his role as Washington's backup. Heinicke and the Football Team gave eventual Super Bowl Champs Tampa Bay a tough game in the Wild Card game last season. After being pushed around by the Los Angeles Chargers in Week One, the Washington defensive line is going to have a major bounce back game, and I think the short week benefits them more than the Giants. After a loss, the Football team is ready to get back on the field and get their first win of the season.

Pick: Washington -3.5

New England Patriots -6 vs. New York Jets

The New York Jets are coming off of a 19-14 loss to the Carolina Panthers where rookie QB Zach Wilson completed just over 50% of his passes. That came against an average defensive unit, so how will he fair against Bill Belichick, who dominates rookie quarterbacks? Wilson is going to be extremely overwhelmed in only his second NFL game. On the other hand, Mac Jones and the Patriots played okay in a Week One loss to the Dolphins. They played well enough to give me confidence that, once they grab a lead, they are going to sit on it hard through the run game and kill Zach Wilson on defense.

Pick: New England -6

Buffalo Bills -3.5 vs. Miami Dolphins

The Bills are coming off a disappointing loss to the Steelers in last week. They were not able to get their offense going against an extremely dominant Steelers front seven. Even considering that, the Bills defense only allowed 16 points (Pitt scored a TD on a blocked punt), and the Dolphins offense isn't much more dynamic than the Steelers. One thing you can count on for the Bills is that the offense is going to pop, and the Dolphins are not going to be able to keep up, even against an average Bills defense.

Pick: Buffalo -3.5

New Orleans Saints -3 vs. Carolina Panthers

The New Orleans Saints are coming off a bludgeoning of the Packers, winning 38-3. Jameis Winston shined in his first game as the Saints starting QB with five passing touchdowns. For this reason, everybody and their neighbor are going to be on the Saints side, but I am not going to fall for the trap. The Panthers handled the Jets last week, but didn't shine quite like the Saints did. The Panthers are going to catch their footing even more in Week Two at home. The offense is dangerous for the Panthers, and I think it will sneak up on the Saints.

Pick: Carolina +3

San Francisco 49ers -3 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Both the 49ers and Eagles won their first game last week, but in different fashion. The 49ers got out to a huge 38-10 lead over the Lions, but the Lions mounted a late comeback, falling short 41-33. The Eagles dominated the Falcons on the road 32-6, not allowing a touchdown to a still productive Atlanta offense.

I think the surprise of the week was the Eagles, not that they won, but how dominating they were on both sides of the ball. Jalen Hurts had a great game, passing for 264 yards and three touchdowns. One was to rookie and Heisman Award winner Devonta Smith, who also looked NFL ready in his debut. The 49ers just placed running back Raheem Mostert on IR along with cornerback Jason Verrett. I think the Eagles are going to come out much like they did in Atlanta, and have the 49ers chasing from the start. Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers will not be able to catch up, and the Eagles will win this game at home.

Pick: Philadelphia +3

With the season record standing at 1-4, a big bounce back this week is crucial. Let's make some money and feel good about our NFL picks. As always, be sure to follow along with On Tap Bets for more gambling picks and analysis.
