Illinois mobile sports betting registration is set to return. On March 5, 2022, Illinois residents looking to sign up to place wagers will once again be able to do so from the comfort of their own homes, or anywhere else they so choose.
When Illinois first legalized sports betting in 2020, residents had to sign up in person at a brick-and-mortar sportsbook in order to place bets on mobile devices. The coronavirus pandemic which began in March 2020 quickly became an issue for sportsbooks and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker lifted the in-person requirement temporarily. In April 2021, Pritzker ended the mobile sign-ups, once again requiring residents to sign up in person.
Along with the return of mobile registration, Illinois bettors will also be able to place bets on in-state collegiate athletics. While it's a step in the right direction, bettors must place collegiate wagers in person at a casino or sportsbook retail location. All bets on college athletics must also be placed prior to the start of the contest.
