The Florida Panthers selected Chicago Steel alum Mackie Samoskevich No. 24 overall in the first round of the 2021 NHL Draft on Friday.

The forward scored 37 points (13 goals, 24 assists) in 36 games. He added 10 points (one goal, nine assists) in the USHL's Clark Cup Playoffs to help the Steel win the Cup. His 37 points ranked sixth in scoring on the Steel, with the five players above him each playing in at least 51 games.

"Mackie is a skilled forward who is a playmaker first, with an elite shot and skating ability," Steel head coach Brock Sheahan said.
