Chicago Fire FC have announced their 2021 schedule as Major League Soccer released the schedules of all of its teams today.
Off the back of the news that Soldier Field will be able to host fans up to 25% of its capacity, this is an exciting time for Fire fans as they hope they can watch the Fire improve off a disappointing 2020 season.
Each team will play 34 matches -- 17 home and 17 away -- with 32 of them being broadcast by the legendary Arlo White (Tyler Terens when White is on assignment with NBC) and former MLS keeper Tony Meola. The other two matches will be nationally televised on UniMás (v. Inter Miami CF on 5/22, @ Philadelphia Union on 8/1).
The Fire will play all matches against Eastern Conference opponents, a mandate enforced by MLS due to COVID-19 protocols. You can see the full schedule here.
The Fire's season and home opener comes against last year's Eastern Conference runner-up, the New England Revolution, which will take place on April 17th. The Fire will follow that match up with two on the road against Atlanta United (April 24th) and New York Red Bulls (May 1st).
Expansion side and David Beckham-owned Inter Miami CF will come into town on May 22nd, marking the first meeting between the two clubs. Re-branded CF Montreal plays at Soldier Field the following week on May 29.
Defending champions Columbus Crew will face the Fire three times, twice in Columbus (June 19th, November 7th) and once in Chicago (August 14th).
The Fire's longest homestand will be from June 23rd to July 7th as they play four straight matches at Soldier Field. In turn, the Fire will have a brutal road trip from August 18th to September 19th, as they play six straight matches away from the lakefront.
The Fire's last home game will be on Halloween against the team that began their home season, New England Revolution. The Columbus Crew host the Fire on November 7th for the last regular-season match.
