Five Chicago Steel Alums Make Team USA Roster for 2021 World Junior Summer Showcase

Matt Coronato, Josh Doan, Ian Moore, Mackie Samoskevich, and Ryan Ufko will play for Team USA at the tournament, which serves as an evaluation for World Juniors.

The Chicago Steel alums will have five alumni play for the United States national team at the World Junior Summer Showcase.

USA Hockey invited forwards Matt Coronato, Josh Doan, and Mackie Samoskevich and defensemen Ian Moore and Ryan Ufko to the tournament.

Team USA's 44-man roster will be split into two squads and compete against Finland and Sweden. The 11-game tournament serves as an evaluation for players trying to make their national team for the World Junior Championship. The showcase will be July 24-31 at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan.

Coronato scored a USHL-high 48 goals in 51 regular-season games and 13 points with nine goals in eight Clark Cup Playoffs games. The Harvard-bound forward is the 2021 USHL Forward of the Year.

Samoskevich ranked sixth on the Steel in scoring with 37 points (13 goals, 24 assists) in 36 games. The five teammates slated above him in points each played at least 51 games. His 10 points (one goal, nine assists) in the playoffs tied for third in the league with Canadiens prospect Sean Farrell.

Ufko paced Steel defensemen in assists (29/six) and points (39/seven) in 53 regular-season games and eight playoff games, respectively. His 10 goals tied Moore for the most in the regular season. Moore also had 14 assists in 45 regular-season games and three in the playoffs.

Doan tallied 70 points (31 goals, 39 assists) in 53 regular-season games, to finish third on the team behind Farrell and Coronato. He added five points (two goals, three assists) in the playoffs. He is the son of Arizona Coyotes legend, Shane Doan.

Coronato and Samoskevich are each expected to be selected in the first round of the 2021 NHL Draft. Ufko and Doan are projected to be second to third-round picks. The Ducks selected Moore in the third round in 2020.
