Five days after telling Karl Ravech on ESPN that he is “100% certain" there will be a 2020 baseball season, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred is finding another excuse to delay the MLB season. Owners and players have not come to an agreement on the season. Manfred has the power and obligation to make the final decision on a season (most likely around 50 games with full prorated pay to the players). This is the most the owners will offer. However, now the MLB is telling the player’s union that there will be no season if they can not waive liability on legal claims (AKA related to coronavirus).
This is despicable. The MLB has not moved an inch in negotiations with players, and now the commissioner is saying he is not confident there will be a season.
What happened since last week, Rob? Are you finally coming to the realization that you and the owners do not care about baseball? It’s amazing how finding a new excuse when baseball revenue slides is the trendy thing for the MLB to do. It’s not about advancing the game. There’s a reason MLB owners have not opened their books to the public or even the players. They do not want to take even one loss and are willing to ruin the sport in the process, and Rob Manfred is comfortable sitting on the sidelines while they do so. Hey Rob, putting a pitch clock in centerfield and limiting the number of mound visits will not fix baseball, but punting a season due to selfishness and money will ruin it. I’m “100%” certain."
