The current deal between NBCUniversal and YouTube TV is expiring. If they cannot come to an agreement by Thursday, September 30, all YouTube TV subscribers will lose more than a dozen NBC-owned channels. The list includes all local NBC channels but also MSNBC, CNBC, Golf Channel, NBC Sports Network, SyFy, and USA Network.
This development has huge implications for any subscribers who mainly signed up for sports. NBC Sports Network has a large following here in Chicago obviously due to their connections to the White Sox, Bulls, and Blackhawks. So what happens if they cannot come to an agreement? According to the follow-up from the official YouTube TV Twitter account, the prices will decrease.
YouTube TV recommends signing up for Peacock Premium to access live football. That is all well and good, but what about hockey, basketball, and the end of the 2021 baseball season? Some people are already emigrating from YouTube TV because of this and signing up for services like Sling TV and Fubo.
Sling TV's highest package carries NBC, Fox, ESPN, NFL Network, and more. The likes of NBC Sports Network, however, are still up for grabs as the content is not always available. Hopefully, the negotiations do not force fans to make the change hastily and NBCUniversal reaches an agreement like they hope to do:
In less than 48 hours, the future of this relationship will come to light and fans will have a very important decision to make. Will YouTube TV lose NBC Sports Network or will they find a way to stay together for the kids?
