Official: Pedro Grifol is the White Sox New Manager

The Chicago White Sox officially announced the hiring of Pedro Grifol as the club's new manager. Grifol, a first-time manager, takes over for Tony La Russa. Thursday's announcement confirms reports about Grifol's hiring that surfaced on Tuesday.

This is the conclusion of a managerial search that cast a wide net. General manager Rick Hahn stuck to most of the criteria he listed in his season-ending press conference. A month later, Grifol emerged as the winner. The 52-year-old joins the White Sox after spending the last three seasons as Kansas City's bench coach.

“Pedro is a bilingual, modern baseball thinker who brings two-plus decades of experience in a variety of roles – bench coach, hitting coach, winter ball and minor league manager, director of player development and scout,” Rick Hahn said in a statement.

“He is an excellent communicator and an experienced game planner who brings a high energy and detail-oriented approach to leadership. He is committed to building an inclusive and cohesive clubhouse, and we could not be happier to have Pedro leading our club.”

Pedro Grifol takes over an 81-81 Chicago White Sox team that vastly underperformed under Tony La Russa, who did not finish the 2022 season after stepping down due to health issues. Grifol, a former catcher, spent the last 10 seasons in Kansas City and served in various roles. He joins Alex Cora, Dave Martinez, and Oliver Marmol as the fourth current Latino manager in MLB.
