The first safety off the board in the 2022 NFL Draft is Kyle Hamilton, who went No. 14 to the Baltimore Ravens. Early mock drafts had the Notre Dame alumnus as high as No. 3 overall, but he slid down the board to No. 14 on draft night.
I like to believe everything happens for a reason, and the Baltimore Ravens are a well-run organization that drafts effectively, so it's no surprise that Hamilton was the obvious selection when he fell to them. In the On Tap Sports Net Mock Draft, I projected him going to the Washington Commanders at pick No. 11. In all, it was not a catastrophic fall for Hamilton and it may result in an even better trajectory for his career.
What Does Hamilton Bring to the Ravens?
Kyle Hamilton was an impact player from the moment he arrived in South Bend, and he left Notre Dame as the best safety in his draft class. He checks in at 6-foot-4 and 220 lbs, which is incredible size for a safety.
Hamilton ran a 4.6-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, but his tape shows he plays at a speed that appears to be better than that figure. The 21-year-old plays sideline to sideline, has good ball skills, and can lay the boom when making tackles.
From the first time Hamilton stepped on the field his freshman year, Notre Dame fans knew he would be a special player. Now, he has a chance to prove it at the next level in the same secondary that Ed Reed roamed for so many years. Hamilton may be the value pick of the draft up to this point as he will be able to step in and instantly shore up the back end of the Baltimore Ravens' defense.
Stay tuned for further updates on Notre Dame players as they come off the board in the 2022 NFL Draft.
