In January 2022 a number of Disney characters entered the public domain. As a result, creatives in the movie industry have a whole new avenue of stories to explore, reimagined classic stories. Director Scott Jeffrey will take a stab at doing just that with the freshly announced Bambi: The Reckoning.
Very little is known about the movie at this time, it is scheduled to go into production in January 2023. In an interview with Dread Central Jeffrey shared a couple of nuggets of information:
The film will be an incredibly dark retelling of the 1928 story we all know and love. Finding inspiration from the design used in Netflix’s The Ritual, Bambi will be a vicious killing machine that lurks in the wilderness. Prepare for Bambi on rabies!

If you feel like you've heard all this before it's because you sort of have. In May it was announced that a dark and twisted version of Winnie the Pooh was coming out. Jagged Edge Productions is behind both movies. Something tells me this is a trend they will continue as more and more Disney characters become available to use free and clear. Wait until 2024 when Mickey is up for grabs...
2022 has been a banner year for horror fans. We had major legacy horror releases from Scream and Halloween for fans of blockbuster flicks. More important has been the rise of indie horror movies. Smile dominated at the box office, and Terrifier 2 made millions from a $250k budget.
