It's official, we're getting a sequel to the 2021 revival of Mortal Kombat! New Line and Warner Bros. announced they've finally given the project the green light. They've also hired Moon Knight and The Umbrella Academy writer Jeremy Slater to write the script.
There is no release date and the cast hasn't even signed on for the sequel. No director is in place either but there is a lot of desire left in the story for that role.
Where they could go from here is a fun question to ponder as a fan. The ending of Mortal Kombat set up a perfect scenario for Joe Taslim to return as the Sub-Zero reincarnate: Noob Saibot.
No real tournament took place in the reboot. So it's likely that Shang Tsung will bring his army to Earthrealm, forcing the brutality. We might actually see the Emperor as well. Could Shao Kahn make an appearance? Maybe.
The anticipation is high for this sequel. The reboot brought a fresh perspective on the Mortal Kombat lore and the introduction of Cole Young was a nice addition. Hopefully, Mortal Kombat 2 brings a wider variety of characters plucked straight from the video games, but done way better than the annihilating debacle we don't talk about.
