Upon the ending of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the dinosaurs in captivity escape into the wilderness of the United States. Raptors are in Las Vegas, the pterodactyls are terrorizing the Vegas strip, and the set up for a third movie began. Finally, after waiting nearly four years, Jurassic World Dominion's first trailer was released.
Keep your composure. The excitement for the final film is over the top. In fact, let's dive into some of the things that stuck out in the trailer.
Old Meets New
Naturally, what better way for the Jurassic Park/World franchise to conclude than to have the old cast meet the new cast? Stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard return for their third film, and Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum return for their appearance in the Jurassic World franchise. We saw Goldblum in the second Jurassic World movie, but haven't seen Neill and Dern since the third Jurassic Park film. Now, they'll team up with the new age cast for what should be a summer blockbuster.
Dr. Alan Grant, Dr. Ellie Satler, and Dr. Ian Malcolm will join Claire Dearing and Owen Grady to catch dinosaurs. Sign me up right now.
Development of the Plot
The obvious portion of the plot that everyone knows is that they need to round up the dinosaurs that escaped. However, based on the number of new dinosaurs witnessed in the trailer, as well as the interactions with some of the other creatures, makes me wonder how the plot will develop. I'm intrigued to see how certain dinosaurs are handled, as well as the how the relationship between Blue and Owen unfolds. According to the trailer, Blue is now a mom and that natural motherly instinct might change the dynamics between her and Chris Pratt's character.
In addition, I'm intrigued to see the roles Grant, Satler, and Malcolm will play in this film. Are they going to be more advisors to Grady and Dearing, or will they actively help round up the dinosaurs on the loose? Plenty of questions will be answered during the film, but the speculation early on is the fun part.
Will There be More?
No, I don't mean more dinosaurs. Rather, I mean more films! Jurassic World Dominion is set to be the conclusion of the Jurassic World trilogy, but will they create another trilogy down the road? Time feels like a flat circle when it comes to movies, so why not have a Jurassic Kingdom franchise, for example?
It's a fun thought to have. However, movies eventually run their course and become overdone. In the world of dinosaurs, another Jurassic franchise would likely be a bit much.
What's On Tap Next?
Jurassic World Dominion hits theaters on June 10, 2022. Until then, fans will have to keep their eyes open for any additional trailers that are released. The hype will certainly build as the summer approaches, so the likeliness of another trailer is very high. In the meantime, we can look forward to a world ruled by dinosaurs and all our favorite Jurassic franchise cast members hitting the big screen together.
Don't make any sudden movements, this movie is going to be epic.
