Mallory Pugh and Yuki Nagasto each scored, and the Chicago Red Stars clinched a NWSL playoff spot with a 2-0 win against Angel City FC on Sunday at SeatGeek Stadium.

Alyssa Naeher made one save for the shoutout for Chicago, which clinched a playoff spot for the seventh straight year. The Red Stars have lost in the NWSL championship game in two of the past three years, 4-0 to North Carolina in 2019 and 2-1 to Washington in 2021.

Savannah McCaskill had one shot on goal, and Almuth Schult made five seasons for Angel City FC, who missed the playoffs by four points.

Sarah Luebbert sent a pass through the left side of box to Pugh, who curled it toward the far post for a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute.

The No. 6-seeded Red Stars will visit No. 3 seed San Diego Wave at 9:00 p.m. CDT Sunday, Oct. 16 at Snapdragon Stadium. The quarterfinal match will air on CBS Network. The winner will advance to the semifinals to play No. 2 Portland Thorns, who have a first-round bye.
