It was a rather windy night in the Windy City as the Chicago Red Stars welcomed the Kansas City Current to SeatGeek Stadium. The Red Stars entered their home opener looking to continue a three-game winning streak against Kansas City dating back to the 2021 campaign. However, the Current had other plans as they scored two goals in the second half to take down the home side.

Chicago took command early as midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo scored in the 22nd minute.

Unfortunately for the home team, DiBernardo's tally marked the first and only Red Stars goal of the night.

As the match went on, the Current slowly took over. The visitors snuck in two goals during the 58th and 86th minutes, respectively.

Those Kansas City opportunities marked two of the few times Chicago couldn't clear in the defensive end.

Despite allowing a Current comeback, the Red Stars played a solid match overall. Chicago outshot Kansas City 13-9 (3-2 on target) and won the possession battle 55% to 45%. Additionally, discipline favored the home side as Chris Petrucelli's club committed 11 fouls to the visitors' 14.
