MLB teams will look to build their organizations for the future during the 2021 MLB Draft, which starts Sunday night at Bellco Theater in Denver, Colorado.

The MLB Draft is traditionally the first week in June, but the League moved it to July in conjunction with the All-Star Game in Denver. In 2020, the draft was shortened to five rounds because of the COVID-19 pandemic and this year there will be 20 rounds.

The Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox enter the first round with the Nos. 21 and 22 picks, respectively. The Pittsburgh Pirates have the No. 1 pick. The draft order is based on the reverse order of the 2020 season standings.

The Cubs and White Sox have each made one selection at the spot where they are slated to pick. Right-handed pitchers Bobby Brownlie of Rutgers went to the Cubs in 2002 and Matt Ginter of Mississippi State went to the White Sox in 1999. Browline made it as high as Triple-A Iowa in the Cubs' system. Ginter, however, played for the White Sox from 2000-03 then had one-year stints with the New York Mets, Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians.

Round 1 and the Competitive Balance A round (the first 36 picks) will happen Sunday. The teams with the ten lowest revenues and teams in the ten smallest markets are eligible for a bonus pick at the end of the first or second round. The Cubs and White Sox do not fall into either category to receive a competitive balance pick.
