The Chicago White Sox could do without an injury scare for the rest of the season, but they got one anyway. After being hit by a pitch in the ninth inning of Friday's game, Andrew Vaughn underwent x-rays on his right hand. The results came back negative and he is day-to-day.
Consequently, Vaughn is not in the Sox lineup for Saturday's contest against the Los Angeles Angels.
His outlook could have been worse, but it still represents yet another obstacle for a reeling White Sox team. The South Siders have lost 10 of their last 11 games and their latest defeat featured just three hits.
Ranking 27th among MLB clubs in runs scored (60), the White Sox need all the help they can get at the plate right now. Despite the team's struggles, Vaughn has been doing his part. He currently leads the White Sox in home runs (four), RBIs (12), and OPS (.933).
The Chicago White Sox are surely hoping Andrew Vaughn's absence is as brief as possible. But an absence of any length, even just one game, will make righting their offensive struggles all the more challenging.
