The Chicago White Sox have signed their 2021 MLB first-round draft pick Colson Montgomery to a contract. On Wednesday, the 19-year-old out of Huntingburg, Indiana signed a minor league contract with a $3.027-million signing bonus. Montgomery was the 22nd pick and played shortstop at Southridge High School for those of you who are not familiar.
Montgomery had an impressive senior season in high school. He hit .338, seven home runs, drove in 23, and stole 24 bases in 27 games. A fun fact about Montgomery is that his first love was basketball, as stated on the White Sox broadcast against the Twins. The 6-foot-4 Montgomery decided to stick with baseball because he knew he had the talent to go far.
It sounds as if the White Sox drafted and have now signed a good kid with a good head on his shoulders. MLB.com previously had Colson Montgomery ranked 25th overall prior to 2021 MLB Draft.
