Report: White Sox Expected To Pick Up Craig Kimbrel's Option With Trade Intentions

Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Chicago White Sox are expected to pick up right-handed reliever Craig Kimbrel’s $16 million team option.
The sole purpose of picking up the option is to trade Kimbrel to a team in need of a closer during the offseason.
The veteran right-hander struggled mightily after the White Sox acquired him at the trade deadline. Kimbrel posted a 5.09 ERA, 4.56 FIP, and allowed five home runs across 23 innings during his time on the South Side. Those figures came after he posted stellar numbers (0.49 ERA and 1.10 FIP in 36.2 innings) to begin the season with the Cubs.

Much has been made about Kimbrel's ineffectiveness stemming from being 'out of his element' in a non-closer role with the White Sox. Whether that sentiment holds legitimate weight or not, Rick Hahn will likely look to move Craig Kimbrel's contract to another team where the righty can presumably return to a ninth-inning role.
