In 2014, AJ Reed was selected in the second round of the MLB draft by the Houston Astros. When selected, Reed brought high hopes with him as a promising hitting prospect. The former Golden Spikes Award winner from Kentucky had a ton of hype around him, but it never translated to the big league level.

In 150 plate appearances, Reed slashed .153/.253/.244 with three home runs and eight RBIs. Needless to say, Reed did not live up to the hype. On July 2nd, 2019, Reed was designated for assignment by the Astros after spending five years with the organization.

On July 8th, 2019, the Chicago White Sox claimed Reed off of waivers. He made his Chicago White Sox debut on July 12th, 2019. In four at-bats, he had one hit. He remained with the Major League club until August 1st, 2019. He slashed .136/.204/.205 and hit one home run with four RBIs during his time on the South Side.

Reed then spent the remainder of the season in Charlotte with the White Sox Triple-A affiliate. He didn't find much success there either.
