Legendary Chicago White Sox slugger Frank Thomas already has plenty of awards, accolades, and honors on his resume. Now, the Baseball Hall of Famer can add another monumental item to that list, quite literally. Thomas's alma mater, Auburn University, will dedicate a statue of him during the 2023 season.

Before embarking on a dominant MLB career, Thomas terrorized SEC pitching from 1987-89 at Auburn. In 178 games for the Tigers, he smashed 49 home runs and drove in 205 runs while never hitting below .359. The Georgia native earned All-SEC honors three times and a consensus All-American selection during his junior season.

"I am extremely humbled and thrilled to be honored with a statue at Auburn University where it all began," Thomas said in a release. "At Auburn I became a man. I was blessed to have Coach Pat Dye and his staff who pushed me to new heights and instilled football toughness and a will to win that I never knew existed.”

Thomas pushed those heights even further after the Chicago White Sox selected him seventh overall in the 1989 MLB Draft. One of the most feared hitters of all time, "The Big Hurt" slashed .301/.419/.555 with 521 home runs and 1,704 RBIs across 19 MLB seasons. His illustrious career included two-time MVP honors, four Silver Slugger Awards, five All-Star selections, and, of course, a plaque in Cooperstown.

But his next chunk of bronze will take him back to his roots. Auburn baseball will erect Frank Thomas's statue at Plainsman Park during the 2023 season. Given his imposing size, the bronze workers assigned to the project will surely have their work cut out for them.
