ESPN's Jeff Passan has reported that the door is open on contract extension talks between the Chicago White Sox and right-handed ace Lucas Giolito. Passan also mentioned 2019 MLB Draft third-overall pick Andrew Vaughn and the White Sox are in talks too.

Lucas Giolito still has three years of control left on his contract, but it seems like the White Sox are trying to get ahead of what could be a massive pay day for the young pitcher.

Andrew Vaughn was selected in the 2019 MLB Draft with the third selection and has yet to make his major league debut. There have been rumors of him being the Opening Day designated hitter, but service time could play an issue in when, and if, he comes up to the show.

If Vaughn agrees to sign an extension, he will follow in the footsteps of White Sox stars' Luis Robert, who signed a six-year, $50 million dollar contract extension in 2020, and Eloy Jimenez, who signed a six-year, $43 million dollar contract extension in 2019. Andrew Vaughn could receive a contract similar to Jimenez's before the start of the 2021 campaign. The White Sox goal is to buy-out his arbitration years.

Lucas Giolito, who will be making his second-straight MLB Opening Day start for the White Sox in 2021, could be looking for a nine-figure contract. He has finished top-10 two years in a row in the AL CY Young voting and has transformed into one of the most dominant pitchers in the MLB after a terrible start to his major league career.
