Jose Abreu Exits Game Early After Scary Collision with Hunter Dozier
During Game 1 of Friday's White Sox vs. Royals doubleheader, a scary collision occurred in the second inning.
With one on in the top half of the frame, Kansas City third baseman Hunter Dozier skyed a pop-up near home plate. White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal took a route to the ball down the line that caused Dozier to veer around him and directly into charging Sox first baseman Jose Abreu. Dozier and Abreu collided in a violent manner and both dropped to the field immediately.

Both Abreu and Dozier exited the game after being assisted off the field by their respective coaches and training staffs.
UPDATE: 5/14/21, 3:26 PM CT - The White Sox announced that Jose Abreu suffered a facial contusion and laceration in addition to a bruised left knee. His current status is day-to-day.
The update also stated that the initial assessment of Abreu for a concussion was negative. That diagnosis is an encouraging development considering the violent nature of contact to the head.
