Jose Abreu Wins 2020 AL Hank Aaron Award
After an outstanding 2020 campaign, White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu has been dominating the offseason as well. Abreu's 2020 accolade list already includes AL MVP honors, Sporting News MLB Player of the Year honors, MLBPA Outstanding Player honors, and the AL Silver Slugger award for first basemen. Today, he can add the AL Hank Aaron Award to that list.
The Hank Aaron Award recognizes the most outstanding offensive performer in each league. While Abreu took home American League honors, his MVP counterpart, Braves' first baseman Freddie Freeman, won the award in the National League.
Abreu posted 2.6 fWAR, a .317/.370/.617 slash line, 19 home runs, and an MLB-leading 60 RBIs while playing in all 60 games during the shortened 2020 season. He is the first White Sox player and first Cuban-born player to take home the Hank Aaron Award.
