Chicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks has been named the Mariano Rivera American League Reliever of the Year. This is the second straight season Hendriks has received the honor. In 2020, he won the award when he was with the Oakland Athletics.
In 2021, Hendriks went 8-3 with a 2.54 ERA. He let up 20 earned runs and struck out 113 batters in 71 innings pitched. The fiery Australian finished second in the MLB in saves at 38 but ranked atop the American League. He also led all MLB relievers in strikeouts.
Hendriks signed a three-year, $54 million contract with the White Sox in January of 2021. The contract is paying dividends, as Hendriks continues his run of dominance on the league.
