Yes, you read the headline right. The White Sox made history tonight against the Detroit Tigers. Lucas Giolito and Dylan Cease are the second set of teammates to record 200+ strikeouts in a season.

This is the first time since 1971 that the White Sox have had a duo accomplish this feat. Tom Bradley and Wilbur Wood were the last pair to do it. On the season, Giolito has struck out 200 batters in 178 2/3 innings pitched. Cease has struck out 221 in 161 2/3 innings pitched.

In a season where the Chicago White Sox had a plethora of questions surrounding them, they came out on top by winning the American League Central Divison. Receiving consistent work from Giolito and Cease has proved to be beneficial and helped lead the Sox to their first division title since 2008.

White Sox fans have known what Lucas Giolito has been capable of since 2019. In that season, Giolito crossed over the 200 strikeout mark for the first time in his career. Dylan Cease making the jump, after being somewhat of a question mark, has worked wonders for the White Sox rotation. The pair talked during Spring Training about pushing each other this season. It seems to have worked pretty well.

Hopefully, this isn't the last historic moment that takes place in the 2021 campaign.
