This morning, Daniel Palka was named the International League batter of the week, and that means it is time to bring him back to the South Side.
It was an impressive offensive week for Palka, who went yard three times, drove in seven runs, and walked an impressive eight times.
Since going down to Charlotte, Palka has regained his power stroke. While some would argue it is a lot easier to hit home runs off of AAA pitching, his highlights certainly look a lot more like the version of Palka we remember from 2018 than the one we saw start 2019 in Chicago.
Ryan Cordell, who has been filling in right field since Palka was sent down, started out pretty hot, but he has since tapered off and is looking more "average" with each game. Cordell currently sports a .247/.333/.403 slash line and while he has raised his average up from .227 just a week ago, he hasn't shown much power or the ability to find the gaps for extra-base hits in quite awhile.
While Cordell does provide an upgrade on defense over Palka, people love the long ball. Palka has hit nine of them in the 25 games he has played down in Charlotte. Only Matt Skole (12) has more home runs than Palka, but he has played in 11 more games.
Palka has served his time "figuring it out" down in AAA, so it's time to see if his recent success can translate back over to the big league level.
