The Chicago White Sox will be sending two of their prospects to compete in the 2021 MLB All-Star Futures Game. The first prospect is Yoelqui Cespedes, who is currently playing with the High-A Winston Salem Dash. Yoelqui is the younger brother of former MLB All-Star outfielder Yoenis Cespedes.
In nine games this season for the Dash, Yoelqui is slashing .216/.341/.378. The young Cespedes brother has hit one home run, three doubles, and has four RBI's. The 23-year-old outfielder signed with the White Sox out of Cuba in December of 2020. The Sox made it official and announced the signing in January of 2021. Yoelqui is currently the White Sox second-ranked prospect according to MLB.com.
The other White Sox prospect who will be participating in the game is Jake Burger. The Chicago White Sox drafted Jake Burger in the 2017 MLB Draft with the 11th pick. Unfortunately, injuries have stopped Jake from reaching his full potential with the Chicago White Sox. The former top 100 prospect has turned it around in 2021 and he is showing why he was once a first round pick.
In 41 games for the Triple-A Charlotte Knights, Burger has slashed .317/.365/.593. Burger has hit 10 home runs, 14 doubles, and driven in 35 runs. Burger has also started taking reps at second base. This could be an in-house solution to the Nick Madrigal injury at some point.
The MLB Futures Game will be played on Sunday, July 11 at Coors Field as a part of MLB All-Star Weekend.
