The Chicago White Sox have placed shortstop Tim Anderson on the ten-day injured list due to a strained left hamstring.

Anderson exited Sunday's game in Anaheim early due to left hamstring tightness. He was initially listed as day-to-day and manager Tony La Russa hoped his shortstop would be able to play in the White Sox home opener on Thursday. However, Anderson's ailment requires more time off, hence today's designation on the injured list.

In a corresponding move, the White Sox recalled utility infielder Danny Mendick from the team's alternate training site. When the White Sox finalized their Opening Day roster last week, Mendick seemed to be the "odd man out". Now he will have a chance to fill in while Anderson is on the mend. Mendick slashed .243/.281/.383 while adding three home runs and six RBIs over 33 games for the White Sox during the shortened 2020 season.

Mendick's arrival will give La Russa another versatile infield option. Nick Madrigal has experienced multiple defensive blunders and Leury Garcia's offensive output has been futile in the early going of the 2021 season, so Mendick will likely get a shot to fill in for one or both of those players while Anderson remains on the injured list.
