White Sox OF Billy Hamilton to Begin Rehab Assignment

White Sox outfielder Billy Hamilton is on his way back beginning with a rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte.

White Sox outfielder Billy Hamilton is on his way back. Prior to Saturday's contest against the Tampa Bay Rays, the White Sox announced that Hamilton is set to begin his rehab assignment with the Charlotte Knights.

Hamilton, who has been on the injured list with a strained right oblique since August 1st, has remained a constant presence in the White Sox dugout since the injury.

NBC Sports Chicago contributor Vinnie Duber wrote about Hamilton’s impact on the team just a few days ago despite the veteran outfielder being sidelined. The White Sox getting Hamilton back down the stretch is welcome news, despite the team’s already dangerous outfield crew that recently welcomed back both Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert.

How Hamilton will be used by White Sox manager Tony La Russa will be interesting. Jimenez has slotted into the lineup in left field much more than some thought he would after returning from his own injury. Andrew Vaughn has become, to many, a player who deserves to be in the lineup everyday. Up to this point, La Russa has been very open to resting his starters and providing at-bats for everyone on his bench throughout the season, but the speed and defensive abilities that Hamilton provides could prove extremely useful to the White Sox in October.
