Prior to Tuesday afternoon's matchup with the Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa laid out his plans for starter Carlos Rodon.

Rodon has struggled recently and the news of him taking the mound on Wednesday is notable given the concerns that La Russa had in his postgame press conference just yesterday. The left-hander has thrown 127.2 innings so far in the 2021 season. His high mark for innings came in 2016 when he tossed 165 and he has not eclipsed the 120-inning threshold since. Unfortunately for the White Sox, it is highly conceivable that Rodon's best innings for this year are behind him.

While Tony La Russa was concerned about Carlos and some White Sox fans are as well, according to Rodon himself he is just dealing with some normal soreness. The key thing to watch for next Wednesday outside of Rodon's velocity will be his pitch count, especially early.

Getting Rodon back into the sixth or seventh inning and seeing him throw 80-100 pitches of quality baseball will go a long way in boosting everyone's confidence heading into October.
