The two Chicago teams are going in opposite directions, as the White Sox (63-46, first in AL Central) push for a playoff spot while the Cubs (52-58, fourth in NL Central) are in rebuilding mode. The teams were involved in two trades, with the Cubs sending relievers Ryan Tepera and Craig Kimbrel to the White Sox.
The White Sox are coming off a surprising 2-1 series loss to the Kansas City Royals. The South Siders fell 9-1 and 3-2 in their last two games.
The Cubs have dropped their past two series at the Washington Nationals and Colorado Rockies, 2-1. The North Siders had two one-run losses in Colorado, 3-2 and 6-5, to fall in the series.
