White Sox Reliever Evan Marshall to Have Tommy John Surgery
Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Evan Marshall will undergo Tommy John surgery this offseason, according to James Fegan of The Athletic.
Marshall pitched 27.1 innings across 27 games for the White Sox in 2021, accumulating a 5.60 ERA, 4.63 FIP, and an 8.6 K/9 rate. The righty suffered a strained right flexor pronator in his elbow, which forced him to the 10-day injured list on June 29. The club then placed Mashall on the 60-day injured list on July 29.
Attempting to make a comeback late in the season, Marshall began a rehab assignment with the Triple-A Charlotte Knights on August 26. However, he did not return to the White Sox in 2021. Fegan reports Marshall could only get his fastball velocity into the 90-91 MPH range, which likely diminished his chances of returning for the playoffs.

Evan Marshall has been a nice bullpen piece for the White Sox since coming to the South Side in 2019. In his first two seasons with the Sox, he posted a 2.45 ERA, 3.60 FIP, and an 8.7 K/9 rate across 73.1 innings. Unfortunately, decreased effectiveness to begin the 2021 season and his subsequent injury issues led to a less inspiring third year at 35th/Shields for Marshall.
