The Chicago White Sox are in a heated race for the top spot in the AL Central with the Cleveland Guardians. Thursday afternoon will feature a crucial makeup game between the divisional foes in Cleveland. Sox' acting manager Miguel Cairo will shuffle his rotation and turn to Lance Lynn instead of Lucas Giolito.

It's one of four remaining head-to-head contests, essentially making it a must-win affair if the White Sox are to close the gap on the Guardians' three-game lead. An off day on Monday allowed the South Siders some flexibility to tweak their rotation, resulting in Cairo's decision to "ride the hot hand" by lining up Lynn for Thursday.

After a slow start upon returning from the injured list, Lynn has looked more like his 2021 self as of late. Over his last eight starts, the big righty touts a 5-1 record with a 1.81 ERA and 58 strikeouts.

Last time out, he tossed six innings and allowed zero earned runs, three hits, and one walk while fanning five. His efforts were good enough to pick up a win Saturday at Oakland.
