As the 2022 MLB season winds down, the push for the postseason is in full force. On Tuesday, the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Guardians begin a three-game series that will have a huge impact on the AL Central standings.

It feels like a must-sweep series for the Sox, who trail the Guardians by 3.5 games entering Monday. With 15 games remaining, the White Sox must gain as much ground as possible on Cleveland. A trio of wins would also result in a head-to-head season series advantage, which is crucial in a tiebreaker scenario.

The White Sox will send three of their most reliable arms to the mound for the divisional clash. Here's how it will play out.

Tuesday: Dylan Cease

Sep 3, 2022; Chicago, Illinois, USA; Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease (84) delivers against the Minnesota Twins during the seventh inning at Guaranteed Rate Field.

The South Siders will turn to their ace in the series opener. Dylan Cease touts a 14-7 record, 2.16 ERA, and a dominant 11.5 K/9 rate, making him an AL Cy Young candidate.

Last time out, Cease picked up a loss due to struggles with his pitch mix and a complete lack of run support. He allowed three earned runs on six hits and two walks while fanning eight across five innings on Sept. 14 against the Rockies.

Cease will look to get back to his near-no-hitter ways Tuesday when he faces Aaron Civale, who will return from the injured list for the Guardians.

Wednesday: Lance Lynn

Aug 25, 2022; Baltimore, Maryland, USA; Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Lance Lynn (33) pitches against the Baltimore Orioles during the first inning at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

The last time the White Sox played a must-win game against Cleveland, Lance Lynn took the mound and got the job done. In a makeup game on Sept. 15, the veteran righty went 6.1 innings and allowed two earned runs, six hits, and one walk while striking out six to pick up the win.

After an initial series of struggles upon making his season debut in June, Lynn has found his groove. Since the calendar flipped to August, he has a 6-1 record, 1.93 ERA, and .544 OPS against in nine starts.

As Lynn takes the mound Wednesday, the Guardians will counter with Triston McKenzie.

Thursday: Johnny Cueto

Aug 20, 2022; Cleveland, Ohio, USA; Chicago White Sox pitcher Johnny Cueto leaves the game in the ninth inning against the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field.

It's been a while since Johnny Cueto took the mound for the Chicago White Sox. The club scratched the veteran from his scheduled Saturday start as he dealt with an illness. Now, the Sox expect him to return for Thursday's series finale.

Cueto will look to rebound from a rough outing on Sept. 11 in Oakland. He allowed seven runs (five earned) on eight hits and one walk across 4.1 innings in that contest.

Despite his 7-8 record, Cueto has provided much-needed stability to the White Sox' rotation. His 3.09 ERA is his best mark since an All-Star 2016 campaign. The crafty right-hander will face Cleveland Guardians' ace Shane Bieber on Thursday.
