This morning, the Chicago White Sox finalized their coaching staff for the 2021 season. Some of the following names had been reported hires in previous weeks, but today's announcement makes them official.

  • Manager: Tony La Russa
  • Bench Coach: Miguel Cairo
  • Pitching Coach: Ethan Katz
  • Assistant Pitching Coach: Curt Hasler

  • Assistant Hitting Coach: Howie Clark
  • First Base Coach: Daryl Boston

Ethan Katz is known among White Sox circles as "Lucas Giolito's high school pitching coach", but he has Major League experience under his belt as well. After leaving Harvard-Westlake High School (California), Katz served in the Angels, Mariners, and Giants organizations before taking the White Sox job.

Howie Clark steps up from Triple-A Charlotte to take over assistant hitting coach duties on the South Side. He previously served in the same role with the Baltimore Orioles from 2017-2019.

Yes, Shelley Duncan is the son of Dave Duncan -- Tony La Russa's longtime pitching coach. Shelley joins the White Sox organization as an analytics coordinator after serving as Toronto's Major League field coordinator in 2019. He previously managed in the Diamondbacks minor-league system from 2015-2018.

Returning

Curt Hasler, Frank Menechino, Daryl Boston, and Joe McEwing all return to the White Sox coaching staff. All but McEwing will fulfill the roles they held last year. The organization moved on from Nick Capra earlier in the offseason, so McEwing will move from bench coach to third base coach in 2021.
